So I’ve been meaning to get this site more active, and I’ve been telling myself to get off my lazy butt and write more reviews (which I haven’t done). But while I’m trying to convince myself to start writing (and reading) again, I figured I should do a somewhat (bi?)monthly links roundup, of articles I want to return to sometime in the future.
Some of these might be sort of old, and some are new. They’re just ones that I’ve read somewhat recently that I don’t want to forget.
Yes, I know it’s a bit inaccurate to see if Johnson spoiled Trump, considering that Trump actually won. But seeing how Johnson has a pretty solid conservative base, I wanted to see how possible it was that Johnson actually helped Clinton to victory more than he hurt her.
So, yes, let’s look at the blue states.
The impassioned outcry against third party voters that has arisen because of the recent Trump vote has prompted me, a third party (Green Party) voter to run some numbers to check the validity of the idea that we “spoiled” the elections.
Yes, I am biased. So take these results as you will. I will be running them primarily off CNN’s reporting of exit poll surveys, which may or may not be biased in their own right.
I will also be doing only red states for obvious reasons. And I am running on a number of assumptions. I am aware of them, but since this entire outcry against third party voters has also been based on assumptions… Well, at least mine has neat numbers.
This was originally posted on my Tumblr in 2012, and since I spent quite a bit of time on it, I decided to transpose it here.
I haven’t had time to add a lot of new producers to it, so anyone who became active/famous after ’12 will probably be missing. Apologies in advance if some youtube reprints are missing/incorrect — I have not had the time to fix this yet. Will be editing later.
Partially transposed from my Tumblr and edited.
This was originally written for my friends who were willing to try out BL but didn’t want to wade through all the shitty ones with terrible consent problems. I mainly enjoy romantic fluff in which the couple gets together within the first few pages and then spend the rest of the manga being domestic. There are some exceptions (like plot-oriented BL), but mainly that’s what you’ll see here.
If you want actual, true-to-life representation of queer folks in manga, please check out the other rec list. If you’re also interested in GL, I also have a separate list for that.
Moved from my Tumblr to here. Since Tumblr’s format doesn’t really make for good long-term posts.
As in, series that aren’t published in yaoi/yuri magazines, for lesbian or gay characters, and any series with bisexual/trans/intersex characters. (I have a separate rec list for BL, and one for GL as well.) And by “bisexual” I mean any character who explicitly identifies as bisexual. None of this “you’re the only guy/girl I’ve fallen in love with” — these situations do happen, yes, but they aren’t really great bisexual representation.
I will try to focus on series that gives these LGBTQI+ character ample screentime, all the while not invalidating their identity, and actually allowing them some possibility of romance (if they so desire).
Note: I wrote this a few months ago, and then promptly forgot about it. I was planning on editing it a bit more, but at this rate, it’ll never see the light of day. So here it is, in all its unedited glory.
So, with Black Bullet airing this season, I’ve been thinking of the literal objectification of women in media. I don’t really feel compelled to go into depth about how this is an overarching problem and affects/influences our views and treatment of women because other people have said it and said it better, but I felt it would be interesting to compile a list of anime and manga that use this trope, both for women and men.
Note: this list does not say anything about my actual feelings about the particular series in question. In fact, I actually do enjoy reading/watching many of these. I’m simply illustrating a greater societal problem. And because I love making lists.
Will be updated whenever I find/remember more examples.
This season has Captain Earth. Automatically best season I’ve experienced since I returned to anime four seasons ago.
(Kyousougiga’s season could’ve been this, except I somehow neglected to watch Kyousougiga until the season was over and suffered through a completely shit season. Biggest regret.)
Anyway, I’m also planning on watching M3, but since it hasn’t aired yet (wow is this a super late-airing anime or what?) it’s excluded from this list. Might make a separate post for it when it finally airs… or not. Depends. If I don’t make one, just assume it’s turned out to be either really bland or really good. (Because if it was really bad, I would post just to complain about it.)
Part 2 of what will probably be a four-parter! Yay!
Also, surprisingly, other than InaKon, this post also comprises the shittiest anime (besides Hamatora) of the season. So whoo for getting this over with!
(Reminder that there is a trigger warning for Kill la Kill. Proceed with caution.)
